In a sporty convertible every day on Lithuanian roads: he explained why it is possible even in cold weather

In discussions about sports cars, it is still common to hear the observation that no convertible or coupe is suitable for everyday use, and that in order to enjoy dynamic driving, you need the most powerful engine on offer. Both of these statements are not true and only encourage people considering the purchase of a sports car to doubt their own intentions. In fact, the choice of a stylish and dynamic model can also be seen as a rationally based decision, fully compatible with emotionally based expectations.

Many car enthusiasts can attest to the fact that a sports coupe or convertible can make a great everyday vehicle. In Lithuania, due to the corrosion-promoting salt mixtures still used to sprinkle roads, the absolute majority of such models are kept in garages in winter, so real examples can mostly be seen in the warm season.

However, there is no shortage of such cars and their variety is expanding every year - starting with the old Nissan 200SX and ending with the new BMW 8 Series coupe models.

Manufacturers also make sure that each driver can choose the version of the desired model that best suits his needs and conditions of use. For example, when planning to use the Jaguar F-Type sports coupe as an everyday vehicle, instead of a V8 engine with a mechanical supercharger, a four-cylinder engine with a turbo would be completely sufficient.

The 300 hp it generates will be more than enough in most cases, and there are also advantages such as a much more attractive price or a more modest appetite for fuel.

Lower power engines have their advantages

Racer Karolis Raišys notes that when choosing a sports coupe model for daily use, the Jaguar F-Type version with a four-cylinder engine would be even more suitable than a modification with a V8 engine. According to the interviewer, the weaker power unit does not respond as well to the slightest press of the accelerator, and the available traction can be used more.

"I think that the combination of a beautiful body and an economical and less polluting engine is a very good choice. Additionally, it should be appreciated that the four-cylinder engine should be even more comfortable when driving in the city. Even driving a hot hatchback is not always as pleasant as a regular version of the same model with a modest 1.3 liter engine. In the second case, at least you can use the engine and not feel the traction pits at all," he emphasizes.

According to K. Raišis, the sports coupe model can be considered no less rational choice than any other type of car. And especially in cases where the driver usually drives alone anyway. After sitting in a sports model, such a person will not only "not carry air", but will also feel more pleasure himself.

"It's great fun when someone decides to buy a car that only seats two people. The model with the most powerful engine is also not necessary. The lower-powered engine is more compact and lighter, and if you don't intend to hit the racetrack every weekend, such an optimally balanced car is ideal for everyday use," explains the racer.

Calculated decisions are not always happy

K. Raišys advises those who are thinking about buying a sports car, but can't decide whether they should choose a coupe or a convertible, not to think too long and stay with an open body. The interviewer jokes that we should follow the British example. Even inclement weather does not deter them from going for a ride with the convertible top open.

"I'm in favor of everyone buying open sports cars and driving with raised roofs not only on days when it's warm outside and there's not a cloud in the sky. You don't even need to dress warmly for this - special aerodynamics and warm air supply solutions ensure a sufficiently comfortable ride, although it may look different from the outside," the interviewer notes.

The offer of sports models on the Lithuanian new car market is quite modest, but alongside the Jaguar F-Type in the same price range, you can also choose such models as the BMW Z4, Toyota Supra or Porsche 718 Cayman. All of them can be equipped with four-cylinder engines of lower power, and the dynamic characteristics are very similar, but K. Raišys points out that only British brand cars in this group could be considered exclusive.

Porsche products have long been considered mass consumer products, but Jaguar models certainly won't become so anytime soon. So for people who want to stand out and draw attention to themselves on the street, cars from the British manufacturer should be the most attractive.

Germans focus on rationality and calculate everything carefully. Judging by the numbers alone, this is good, but it does not provide additional emotions and satisfaction with the purchase," the car enthusiast teaches.

Summarizing the topic of choosing a sports car, K. Raišys jokes that once a year you can really get into a situation when the 407-liter Jaguar F-Type trunk will not fit all the things or there will be no place to seat a passenger, but this is a small tribute for the opportunity to enjoy the aesthetics of such a model and driving pleasure.
