Lexus has introduced a new generation electric vehicle, the RZ 450e. The new model, built on a platform specially designed for battery-powered cars, will stand out with the most advanced technologies that ensure comfort and safety. The auxiliary systems installed in the electric car will guarantee a high level of comfort and at the same time allow you to enjoy immersive control.

The RZ 450e is a battery-only electric SUV. This is the first Lexus model that has been developed as an electric car from the ground up. So this model was not built to replace a conventional internal combustion engine by simply installing an electric motor and battery. Engineers tried to maximize the potential of new technologies that ensure exciting dynamics and driving pleasure.

For the first time, e-Axle axles have been fitted

The RZ is the first mass-produced model to feature Lexus' new engineering solution, the e-Axle axle. It is an extremely compact package of the most important units installed between the driving wheels, which consists of an electric motor, a reducer and a control unit. The same design is used front and rear, and both electric axles connect to the Direct4 all-wheel drive system. In this way, depending on the driving conditions, optimal grip, power transmission and vehicle stability are ensured.

Direct4 is an exclusive technology developed by Lexus. It is a smart system that constantly monitors the traction of all four wheels and will distribute the transmitted torque very smoothly. This engineering solution allows for optimal traction and better steering feedback, which guarantees handling stability.

Battery, range and energy consumption

RZ is equipped with a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. The battery mounted under the cabin floor is seamlessly integrated into the overall structure of the platform. Its position also contributes to the fact that the car has an extremely low center of gravity.

Special attention was paid to the longevity of the battery. The aim is to ensure that this important unit maintains a high level of performance 10 years after commissioning. Lexus engineers predict that the RZ's battery will still retain more than 90 percent of its charge after a decade. initial capacity. The various fuses installed will help to maintain the highest level of technical characteristics. The latter was helped by Lexus' long-term experience in improving battery management systems.

Exact range and charge time figures will be released a little later, but Lexus engineers expect the RZ to cover a distance of around 400 kilometers on a single charge under the mixed WLTP test cycle. Indicative energy consumption is 18.1 kW/100 km, so the RZ should be one of the most efficient electric cars on the market.

Unique One Motion Grip technology

The One Motion Grip electronic control system is one of the most important new technologies applied for the first time in the Lexus RZ model. Not only are there no mechanical connections left, but also the steering column. Instead, an electric system is used, which transmits the signal from the steering wheel directly to the front wheels. This ensures extremely fast reaction to turning the steering wheel and more precise control of the car.

Drivers will also notice less side-to-side steering when driving over uneven surfaces. It will also be easier to adjust the driving trajectory in strong gusts of wind and maintain the desired trajectory when driving on a slope.

Advanced security systems

Among the most important advanced systems installed in the new RZ are automatic lane keeping assistance, active assisted steering technology and additional driver fatigue or distraction monitoring functions.

Adaptive speed support, together with automatic lane keeping assistance, allows you to entrust the car's technology with full control when driving at low speeds. This can be extremely handy when cruising slowly in traffic. Active steering assistance correctly corrects the steering of the wheels when taking a turn or a bend in the road based on the data from the camera installed in the front.

The new RZ also features the Lexus-only e-Latch system, which prevents the doors from opening if another vehicle or cyclist is detected from behind. This unique technology is expected to enable 95% reduce the number of incidents that occur when the door is opened in a dangerous situation.

New design features

Lexus designers have taken the freedom of electric car design to create a model that looks unlike any other conventional car. Also, the debut of the RZ model marks a new stage in the history of Lexus car design. The exterior reinterprets the sharp shapes typical of the brand's other cars, while the interior welcomes passengers with open space and light.

The new Lexus RZ 450e is now available for reservation on the Lexus website. Sales in markets around the world will begin in January 2023.
