One of the most popular series of the German car concern BMW - the 3 series models - has received a significant update. The updated sedans and station wagons of the "three" will have an even sportier and more progressive appearance, will receive new digital capabilities, including autonomous control and driving assistants, and will also have a wide range of engines and even seven versions of plug-in hybrids.
"Due to their sporty looks and precise handling, the BMW 3 Series models have been regarded as exemplary mid-size premium cars since their first model debut. The first BMW 3 sedan was released 45 years ago, and the estate 35 years ago, and this series has contributed significantly to BMW's success. The updated version debuting today will undoubtedly strengthen the position of the BMW 3 in its segment," says Martynas Daujotas, head of the BMW brand in Lithuania.
The official representative of BMW in our country, the Krasta Auto company, announces that the updated BMW 3 models will be on the roads in Lithuania from July. The prices of the models in our market have not yet been announced.
A more progressive and sporty look
From the front, the updated BMW 3 looks significantly sportier than its predecessor thanks to the dynamic bumper structure, lines, larger air intakes and, of course, the redesigned front grille and narrower Full-LED headlights. For an additional fee, buyers will be able to choose adaptive lights that feature bluish accents that will be particularly noticeable in the dark.
BMW designers also gave sportiness to the rear of the "third" - narrower lights are also installed here, and the rear wheel arches have become wider, more "muscular". In the updated model, most of the details at the back of the car are painted in the color of the body, and the gas exhaust openings have become more massive and, depending on the model variant, their diameter reaches from 90 to 100 mm. 17-inch light-alloy wheels are installed as standard in the updated BMW 3 model.
Sport enthusiasts will also be able to choose the M Sport package for an additional fee, which includes a honeycomb pattern front grille, sportier front and rear bumpers and 18-inch alloy wheels. Or the M Sport Package Pro with even more options.
Curved monitor and wider standard equipment
Inside, the BMW 3 has received even bigger updates. One of the most noticeable is BMW's curved monitor mounted at the front of the cabin, which consists of two screens - a 12.3-inch diameter driver information screen and a 14.9-inch diameter settings and entertainment screen. As many functions will be controlled via the touch screen or voice, BMW 3 drivers will find significantly fewer physical control buttons, which gives the cabin an extra touch of elegance.
In both the updated sedan and estate, the BMW 3 will come standard with a three-zone automatic climate control system that can be controlled by voice or via a touchscreen. BMW 3 will also have BMW Live Cockpit Plus with navigation system, auto-dimming rear view mirror, distance sensors in front and rear and other equipment as standard equipment.
A wide range of engines, including plug-in hybrids
The popular BMW 3 will have an extremely wide choice of chassis systems. The efficient internal combustion engines will feature BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and electrification solutions – plug-in hybrid technology or a 48V “mild” hybrid system. The sedan will have three versions of the plug-in hybrid (320e, 330e and 330e xDrive), and the station wagon will have as many as four (320e, 320 xDrive, 330e and 330e xDrive). The BMW 3 will have 4 petrol and 4 diesel engine options.
The power of the updated BMW 3 engines will range from 110 kW/150 hp to 275 kW/374 hp. Plug-in hybrid versions will be able to cover a range of up to 62 km on electricity alone (according to WLTP). The most powerful and fastest will be the BMW M340i xDrive model, which from 0 to 100 km/h. will accelerate in 4.4 seconds.
As standard, all BMW 3s will be equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, but versions with a Steptronic sport gearbox will be available for an additional fee. It will provide even more dynamism, allow faster acceleration or more effectively balance the operation of the traction control system. Some models will also be available with the intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system.
More digital technology
The new 3 Series BMW is equipped with the latest 8th generation operating system, which will provide extensive digital capabilities and offer an interactive interface between the driver and the car. The car is equipped with 5G communication technologies, the BMW ID solution that allows you to personalize your experience, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Functionality updates will be available for remote download, and some functions will also be able to be controlled over the phone via the My BWM app.
The updated models will also feature a number of autonomous driving and parking solutions. For example, already in the standard equipment, the "threes" will have a warning system about an imminent frontal collision with an automatic braking function. This system will detect not only other vehicles, but also cyclists and pedestrians. Cruise control with braking, lane departure warning and other systems will also be installed as standard.
The BMW Head-Up Display projection screen and the Driving Assistant Professional system with advanced driving and lane support functions, active speed control system with Stop&Go function, traffic light recognition and other functions will also be available for an additional fee.
